As the second performance event in conjunction with our current exhibit Slide Slide Slide, Microscope has invited Bradley Eros to assemble part 2 of “Sliding”, a very memorable expanded slide projection night he organized last year at the gallery. Sliding N2 features slide variations in solo, pairings and group projections by Lary 7, Katherine Bauer, Lea Bertucci, Bradley Eros, Tim Geraghty, Sarah Halpern, Rose Kallal, Victoria Keddie, Joel Schlemowitz, and the Optipus collective. All works in Sliding N2 are accompanied by sound in contrast to the silent works currently on exhibit.

Bradley Eros is an artist working in myriad media: experimental film & video, collage, photography, performance, sound, text, contracted and expanded cinema & installation. He has exhibited at the Whitney Biennial, NY and atThe American Century at the Whitney Musuem, NY; MoMA, NY; MoMA PS1, Queens, NY; The Kitchen, NY; New Museum, NY; Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh, PA; Performs09, Exit Art, Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), NY; The New York, London & Rotterdam Film Festivals, among many others. He has collaborated with the Alchemical Theater, the band Circle X, Voom HD Lab, expanded cinema groups kinoSonik & Arcane Project, and most recently with the Optipus film group.
Lary 7 (born in Buffalo, New York) is a multimedia artist whose work mainly features analog, vintage and forgotten electronic instruments and technologies of the 20th century. Lary 7 is a co-founder of Plastickville Records and has been a major figure in the New York experimental underground music scene since 1970. Prior to living in New York City, 7 studied with Paul Sharits, Tony Conrad, and Hollis Frampton at SUNY Buffalo. In the course of the past decades he has worked on musical projects with diverse artists such as Jimi Tenor, Jarboe, Foetus, Tony Conrad, Alexander Hacke, Larry Mullins, Dorit Chrysler, Bernhard Gal, Jakob Kirkegard, Ken Montgomery, Michael Evans and Gordon Monahan among others. In 2013, Lary 7 was one of the last artists-in-residence at the Clocktower Gallery’s lower Manhattan location. Audio Visual Arts gallery in New York presented a solo exhibition of his work early this year.
Katherine Bauer works primarily with 16mm film and its material potential for sculpture, photography and installation. Much of her work involves mythologies, folklores, and narratives. Her work has exhibited at Microscope Gallery, Participant Inc., NY; Shoot the Lobster, Dusseldorf, Germany; Place Gallery, Portland, Oregon; and Immanence Gallery, Paris, France among others. Bauer was awarded a 2012-13 Cité Internationale des Arts Paris Residency and was a recipient of a Carla Bruni-Sarkozy Foundation Fellowship (2012-13). Bauer holds a BA in film and electronic arts from Bard College and a MFA from NYU Steinhardt (2013). Bauer was born in Houston, Texas and currently lives and works in New York.
Lea Bertucci works with photography, sound, video and installation. She received her BA in Photography from Bard College in 2007. The emphasis of her work lies in exciting the liminal areas of perception. She uses tactics such as slide projection, stop motion video and lo-fi filtering of sound to engage with these ideas. Bertucci has been an artist-in-residence at The Wave Farm, Smack Mellon, LMCC, The Queens Museum of Art and Roulette. She was also awarded a Young Composers’ commission from Roulette in 2012. She has performed solo and collaborative works at venues such as Issue Project Room, The Kitchen, Anthology Film Archives, Artists’ Television Access in San Francisco, St. Marks Ontological-Hysteric Theater, The Queens Museum of Art and the High Zero Festival.
Tim Geraghty is an experimental filmmaker and video artist from Providence, Rhode Island, currently living in Brooklyn, New York. He’s a professional broadcast news and documentary editor interested in radically re-editing footage, especially found footage from his line of work, into films with the associative language of dreams. He has previously exhibited or screened his works at Anthology Film Archives, Migrating Forms, Issue Project Room, Microscope Gallery, White Box, SCOPE NY, Lincoln Center, SUDLAB (Naples) and the Rotterdam International Film Festival.
Sarah Halpern works with 16mm film, collage on paper, 35mm slides, music and performance. Her work is largely focused on cinematic time and the active role of the viewer, and has been shown previously at venues including The Museum of Moving Image, The Kitchen, Participant Inc, Anthology Film Archives, and Microscope Gallery. Halpern holds a B.A. in Film and Electronic Arts from Bard College. Halpern just returned from a 2-month fellowship at the MacDowell Colony.
Rose Kallal is a NYC based 16mm film and sound artist. Her installations and performances have been presented internationally at venues and galleries that include, Participant Inc., MoMA PS1, Ramiken Crucible Gallery, Spike Island Art Center (Bristol, UK), The Paradiso/Sonic Acts Festival (Amsterdam, NL) and Museum of Contemporary Art of Bologna, Italy. Musical releases for UK label We Can Elude Control include a split 7” record with Mick Harris (Napalm Death, Lull) & Karl O’Connor (Regis), 12″ record Vermillion Vortex with remix by Robert A A Lowe (Lichens), and 12″ record Implicate Explicate.
Victoria Keddie is an artist, curator, and archivist based in New York City. She works in varying media involving film, video, sound, installation, and broadcast.
She is the co-director of E.S.P. TV, an analog video live taping event and broadcast on MNN network for video, sound and performance. She is a part of ESP LAB with Scott Kiernan, where she performs compositions using signal generation magnetic tape, modulation and broadcast media. She is also a founding member of the film and sound based collective Optipus.
Joel Schlemowitz is Brooklyn artist working with multiple mediums including celluloid film, installation and collage. In addition to his two solo shows at Microscope Gallery, Schlemowitz has previously exhibited at Courthouse Gallery at Anthology Film Archives, NY; KUMUKUMU Gallery, NY; Bound & Unbound Gallery, NY; Museum of Contemporary Cinema, Madrid; Ukrainian Institute of America, NY; and The Images Festival, Toronto, Canada). His films are widely screened at cinemas, festivals, and institutions including at The Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney Museum, Harvard Film Archives, Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), the New York Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, New York Underground Film Festival, The London Film Festival among many others. He has received grants from the Jerome Foundation and New York State Council on the Arts.
Optipus is a nomadic group of chameleon artists, cine-scientists in search of a laboratory, shape-shifting according to site-specific requirements. The group embraces the ephemeral cinema of unfixed forms and open composition. Optipus’s members emerge in myriad collaborations, producing works and events, soundtracks and invented instruments, video edits and film loops, and expanded cinema and immersive installations. Optipus has been seen at various venues including The Kitchen, Anthology Film Archives, Participant Inc., New York University, Microscope Gallery, Bobby Redd Project Space (The Church), Millennium Film Workshop and others.
