Microscope welcomes M Henry Jones to the gallery for a rare night of film and video works, selected and introduced by the artist. The program features many of Jones influential early works including the pre-MTV music videos \u201cSoul City\u201d with the Fleshtones and \u201cGo Go Girl\u201d by Nervus Rex.\u00a0Selected\u00a0TV commercials, web & 3D animations, and a work-in-progress with Daniel Johnston will also be shown. Jones promises a few surprises, among them a stroboscopic monkey sculpture and\u00a0quite possibly \u201cSoul City\u201d on original 16mm film. <\/span><\/p>\n

The screening is in conjunction with\u00a0our current exhibition \u201c<\/span>Overt & Covert: technology and portraiture<\/span><\/a><\/span>,\u201d in which M. Henry Jones\u2019 original 3-D \u201cFly\u2019s Eye\u201d portraits of filmmaker Jim Jarmusch and photographer Robert Frank make their debut.<\/span>

\nM. HENRY JONES has been a seminal figure in the downtown Manhattan art scene throughout the last three decades. He is noted for his work with photography, animation, and film including the groundbreaking 1979 animated music video \u201cSoul City\u201d. Jones\u2019 toured\u00a0Harry Smith\u2019s \u201cHeaven and Earth\u201d multi-projector light extravaganza around the world and has constantly pushed technical and creative boundaries.\u00a0 His works have screened at Anthology Film Archives, New Museum, Wexner Center of the Arts (Columbus), the Howl Festival among many others.<\/span><\/p>\n
